Straight from the heart

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

As part of his homework, my six-year-old Jackson was asked to write a Valentine for every person in his class. He had to write one or two sentences about what he liked about each person. He completed them last night “in private” - per his request - but because they’re not due until tomorrow, I was able a peak at them today, “in private.”

A few highlights:

Dear xxx: I like your hair but I think it’s too long and messy. Your mom should call Mrs Hilton! (Mrs. Hilton is my friend who cuts our hair.)

Dear xxx: I like that you try and make me laugh but spitting food isn’t that funny! Anymore.

Dear xxx: You’re pretty nice, but not that nice. I like your shoes! Do you like mine? They’re new!

I feel so warm all over.

Everything you need to know about make-up

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

I’ve spent the last several days on a film shoot where every time I had to go to the bathroom, I’d have to climb over celebrity make-up artist Christina Farrell. The days were long and the wrinkles deep, so I’d try and squeeze out make-up tips from her at every opportunity. “Oh! Since I have you captive here while I’m blowing my nose again, Christina, what’s your feeling on bronzer?” Finally, her beautilicious client chimed in.

“It’s on her blog, Cynthia. You can even use my computer…” She said. “…in the other room.”

And now, I pass the mother load of make-up info on to you. www.themakeupblogger.com

‘Twas the season

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

I thought I’d explain my hiatus over the holidays.

The short version is that I challenged myself to serve others instead of serving myself, and blogging about my elaborate plans to re-gift every candle, picture frame and potpourri sack seemed a tad self-indulgent.

The long version is that I needed a break.

But I received a lovely email the other day from a fan. She writes, “Where the #@%! are you, Sugar Mama? I need you to feel normal…you’re the only one more pathetic than me!!!” Now, I should write her back to tell her that I found her note to be a tad insensitive.

But I think I’ll send her a candle instead.

As a side note to this piece, my husband is one of the most inspiring, creative and brilliant men I’ve ever met.

Enjoy.
